At GEOLOFTS, recycling happens in (at least) two categories: the reuse of existing building materials in the same or new applications within the building and waste diversion of recyclable products from landfills.
01. The reuse of existing building materials in the same or new applications within the building
We are reusing existing building materials resulting from demolition as detailed on the preservation page. Of course the ultimate recycling is that of the building shell and core itself.
02. Waste diversion of recyclable products from landfills.
By diverting recyclable products from the tenant and building waste stream, away from a landfill, we are allowing others to reuse those materials and the energy derived from, and locked within, them. We will engage all tenants in an active recycling program. Our plans include a dedicated recycling center on each floor, as well as a large recycling area (1,000 sq. ft.) adjacent to the loading docks that can be expanded to practical community recycling. We also plan to deliver used office equipment, computers, and other unused equipment. to proper locations on a periodic basis. We will continue to recycle any scrap metals such as old file cabinets, etc with a local “scrapper".
Eventually, we would like to add a composter for biodegradable waste resulting from lunches, catering, plant matter, etc.
